Hinnomaki Red is an introduction from Finland with outstanding flavor and high yields, my favorite of all gooseberries I have tried. The small to medium bushes are upright and seem possess a fair degree of disease resistance. Suitable for all parts of Montana’s climate, Hinnomaki Red is similar to most gooseberries in that they take very little to maintain. The only thing I ever do in the way of maintenance is harvest the fruit. Okay that may be exaggerating because the birds like them, too, so if this is a problem then you should net the shrubs. Zone 3.
