President Plum
President Plum
Known for its very large, late-ripening plums, President is a European plum that provides fresh fruit at a time when most others have already fruited. This variety is versatile, making it an excellent choice for both rich, dessert-like fresh eating and culinary uses.
Flavor Profile and Disease Resistance
President plums have a refreshing, sweet taste with a hint of acid. They also show resistance to bacterial spot and brown knot. We’ve observed President doing well in the colder parts of Zone 4, particularly in Kalispell.
Cold Hardiness and Ideal Growing Conditions
Hardy to -35°F, President is unlikely to thrive in colder areas of Montana outside the warmest valleys west of the divide, such as Missoula, Flathead, Mission, and Bitterroot.
Pollination Needs
President must be paired with other European plums for pollination.
Tree Size and Rootstock
These trees are 5–7 ft. tall and grafted onto Lovell semi-dwarf rootstock.
