NATIVE SHRUBS
Our collection of native Montana shrubs includes cold-hardy species that thrive across the state—Black Currant, Golden Currant, Buffaloberry, and Elderberry—along with a few close regional natives like Staghorn Sumac and Aronia (Chokeberry). Aronia’s natural range extends west to eastern North Dakota, and Sumac reaches as far as western South Dakota.
We’ve also included Black Huckleberry (Gaylussacia baccata) under native shrubs. While it’s not technically native to Montana, it grows naturally throughout the northern Midwest and into Saskatchewan—and we’ve been growing it successfully here in western Montana for over five years.
These cold-hardy native shrubs support pollinators, produce delicious fruit, and bring ecological diversity to any Montana landscape.
