Overview

With large, sweet black fruits, this wild, seedling grown variety makes excellent jam and is high in antioxidants and total phenolics—making it a healthy choice.

Grown from Seed

Fresh eating quality is unknown, since these are grown from seed. But they’re a must in the Montana garden due to their pollinator attractant potential as well.

Built for Brutal Winters

Hardy to Zone 2. We’ve never seen even the slightest sign of winter damage, even during those crazy fall frosts (-10°F to -20°F in October) that few other places in the country ever experience. These early cold snaps are often more intense than -40°F in mid-January because the plants haven’t even hardened off for winter yet.

Current Plant Size

These shrubs are 3-5 ft. tall.

Shipping restrictions — white pine blister rust quarantine

Black currants (Ribes species) are an alternate host for white pine blister rust. We cannot ship this plant to Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Virginia, or West Virginia, where the sale or importation of black currants is prohibited by state law.

Permit or local restrictions also apply in: Michigan and New Jersey (state permit required) and New York (prohibited outside designated fruiting-currant districts unless the cultivar is certified rust-resistant). Several other states restrict planting only within specific counties or townships.

Orders placed to a prohibited state will be cancelled and refunded.
