Our native trees are mostly native to Montana, although the range of some of these may only be in parts of Montana, or in a couple cases, may fall slightly outside Montana. For instance, our Serviceberry, Chokecherry, Hawthorne, Mountain Ash, Peach Leaf Willow, Native American Plum, Rocky Mountain Juniper, Cottonwood, Ponderosa Pine are found throughout much of the state. Meanwhile, Sand Cherry and Bur Oak's native range extends all the way west to SE Montana, American Linden's range extends to North Dakota but not quite Montana, and then Black Walnut's western extent is eastern South Dakota and Northern Red Oak's extent is eastern North Dakota. However, these are all hardy to most parts of Montana and we select from extremely hardy seed sources east of the divide. All are hardy to at least zone 3, and most even zone 2 and zone 1 in some cases such as Aspen and Chokecherry.
