White Wine Grapes
Our white wine grapes—Brianna, La Crescent, Itasca, and Prairie Star—are cold-hardy selections bred for northern vineyards. Each offers unique flavors, from La Crescent’s tropical nose to Itasca’s interestingly crisp finish. We had an Itasca white wine this year from Alberton Orchards, whose vineyard we planted back in 2019, and it was very good! In our experience, these grapes perform reliably across Montana’s colder valleys, producing elegant and expressive wines. These are all zone 3 grapes, with Prairie Star (-38F) and La Crescent (-36F) possibly being borderline zone 2 in favorable microclimates—especially with snow cover and good air drainage.
