Persimmon Trees

The Persimmon Trees that we have are from seed sourced from Michigan for larger size, and northern Missouri for the smaller size. It our bet that the Michigan sourced seed are hardier than the Missouri, although the supplier of the Missouri source Persimmon seed claims they are hardy to zone 4. These are all currently being offered in trial mode and we offer no guarantees on survivability given that Montana is not necessarily the climate for Persimmons. That said, we would tentatively say that the Michigan sourced seed trees can survive down to -30F. The Missouri sourced seedlings may be less than that. We would therefore say that if you are located in one of the warmer valleys west of the divide where temps do not drop below -30F, which really only includes warmer microclimates up on a bench in the Bitterroot, Missoula, Flathead, Mission, and Clark Fork River Valleys, as well  as a few other valleys in NW Montana. People in areas colder than here should tread cautiously, focus on the best microclimates near their site (out of frost pockets/higher up slope, near structures, out of the wind, etc.).
