More about blister rust

On currants and gooseberries the rust mostly shows up as orange spots under the leaves and early leaf drop. It's the pines that really suffer. Black currants tend to be the most susceptible, so if you want black currants, these are the ones: Titania and Consort. Our native golden currant resists it too and is hardy to zone 2.

For gooseberries, Jeanne, Captivator, Black Velvet, Invicta, Pixwell and Jahn's Prairie all resist it. Jostaberry, a black currant and gooseberry cross, does too. The berry disease resistance chart has the full ratings.

Questions we get

Which black currants resist white pine blister rust?

Titania and Consort. Both are hardy to zone 3.

They can, but Jeanne, Captivator, Black Velvet, Invicta, Pixwell and Jahn's Prairie all resist it.
