More About Zone 4 Peaches

Hardy through all of zone 4: Blushingstar, Contender and Veteran.

Rated to 4b, the warmer half: Glohaven, Glowingstar, Redstar and Risingstar. Save these for a 4b site. If you're in the colder half (4a), skip the ones with the 4b tag.

Every one of these is self-fertile, so one plant will fruit. Our peach pollination map shows which ones bloom together.

Late bloomers, which give you better odds in a frost pocket: Veteran, Glowingstar, Redstar and Risingstar. For jam and jelly: Blushingstar, Contender, Veteran, Glohaven and Glowingstar.

Questions We Get

What does zone 4 mean on your scale?

On our MFTC scale, zone 4 means the coldest night you should plan for (the 1-in-30-year low) falls between -30°F and -20°F. Zone 4a runs -30°F to -25°F and zone 4b runs -25°F to -20°F. That is colder than a USDA zone 4, which is built on the average yearly low, so run your address through our cold hardiness calculator instead of going off a USDA map.

Can I plant the 4b peaches in zone 4a?

We don't recommend it. A 4b rating means it has come through -25°F, not the -30°F a cold zone 4a winter can bring. Not sure which half you're in? Our cold hardiness calculator will tell you.

Do I need two peach trees?

No. Every peach on this page is self-fertile.
