More About Zone 4 Pears
Hardy through all of zone 4: Beurré Giffard, Clapp's Favorite, Concorde, D'Anjou, Golden Russet Bosc, Harrow Sweet, Honeysweet and Ubileen.
Concorde and Honeysweet are self-fertile. Beurré Giffard and D'Anjou set some fruit alone and more with a partner. The rest need a second variety blooming at the same time. Our pear pollination map shows which ones bloom together.
Late bloomers, which give you better odds in a frost pocket: Clapp's Favorite, Concorde and Golden Russet Bosc. Good keepers: Concorde, D'Anjou, Golden Russet Bosc and Harrow Sweet.

Questions We Get
What does zone 4 mean on your scale?
On our MFTC scale, zone 4 means the coldest night you should plan for (the 1-in-30-year low) falls between -30°F and -20°F. Zone 4a runs -30°F to -25°F and zone 4b runs -25°F to -20°F. That is colder than a USDA zone 4, which is built on the average yearly low, so run your address through our cold hardiness calculator instead of going off a USDA map.
Do I need two pear trees?
Not for Concorde and Honeysweet, which are self-fertile. The others do better with a partner.
